BATS Announces Sea Trials of its FAST-Based Vessel Communications Network
INDIANAPOLIS – February 16, 2017 – BATS Wireless (BATS), the world’s leading innovator of wireless stabilization, optimization and tracking systems, today announced the commencement of trials of its FAST platform as the on-the-move offshore wireless network platform of choice for a major Asian electronics and engineering provider. BATS will deliver its FAST 5.8 GHz intelligent tracking antenna solution and integrated radios for trials offshore. The FAST solution is a replacement for inefficient PMP-based wireless networking solutions that rely on omni-directional antennas for communication to other vehicles or vessels in the area. BATS FAST solution brings a higher throughput, increased range, and lower-cost alternative over legacy satellite and PMP-based options.
The customer, one of Asia’s largest publicly-listed companies, with a presence in more than 20 countries, recognized that legacy wireless and satellite-based offshore networks offered today would not serve their needs for a wireless communications solution that kept pace with their cutting-edge technologies. They selected BATS after understanding the advantages offered by a solution based on tracking, stabilizing, and optimizing wireless links that were constantly on-the-move.
The integrated BATS solution allows the operators to communicate and share data on vehicles and vessels up to 50 km (30 miles) away. Operators are able to run all vessel operations through a secure offshore wireless network that are optimized for use with bandwidth-intensive applications such as video conferencing and streaming video surveillance.
“With the increased need for high throughput, secure communications solutions for mobile networks – especially those that feature bandwidth intensive applications such as videoconferencing and streaming surveillance video, the BATS solution has shown that can deliver a competitive alternative, which regularly performs better than anything else currently in the market”, says Phillip Cramer, BATS Wireless’ executive vice president of sales and marketing. “We’re happy for the opportunity to show this customer how much of a difference a BATS solution can make for communications offshore.”
About the FAST System
The FAST system boasts a modular, solid-state design that eliminates the risk of service interruptions due to mechanical failures or system breakdowns. The design provides a step-up in the efficiency of the 360° continuous positioner, allowing the system to regularly track and optimize highly critical broadband connections.
The FAST system is available in three different versions, all designed to meet the needs of any scenario while providing the secure, high-bandwidth link production communications networks rely on. With the ability to operate in multiple frequency ranges, the FAST system can deliver the bandwidth to complete all situation-specific tasks with low latency. The system, which is now serving organizations all over the world, provides operators with the high-bandwidth, reliable, secure connection required to stream media, share data, or communicate with teams back onshore.
